My Love Affair with JR Hair and Beauty Salon - How this former Jawed Habib Singapore Hair Salon won me over many others | A Hair Salon Review

Tucked away inconspicuously along Tanjong Katong Road is a gem of hair salon I discovered about seven years ago. The former Jawed Habib Hair and Beauty Salon (Singapore) has since May of this year, taken on a different moniker - JR Hair and Beauty Salon and is now relocated to just a short walking distance away from its previous location.

Current Location: 263 Tanjong Katong Rd, #01-01, Suites@Katong, Singapore 437050

How my journey with them began...

It was an anxious day in 2015 when I first stepped into Denise's hair salon. I was planning to have a hair cut and that was a constant cause for anxiety because I had always felt deeply unsatisfied with all my previous hair cuts with other hairdressers. It made me wonder if there might actually be a salon somewhere that understands my 'Indian' hair and how best to style it.

These constant dissatisfaction with my hair cuts pushed me to 'shop around' for some potential salons that might be more suitable for me and, lo and behold, I came across this helpful salon review for Jawed Habib Hair Salon which seemed to be an answer to all my hair problems!

Without a second thought, I made an appointment and went down for a hair cut session. That was the first time I met Denise Scally, senior hair stylist and partner at the salon. And the rest, as they say, is history.

From her first assessment of my hair and the styles she recommended that might be suitable for me, I knew I had found the place and person for my hair needs. And with that, a long-form relationship was forged between me and Denise that has seen us through important milestones in my life

She did my hair for my stint as a bridesmaid, for the countless weddings I attended, she was the one who readied my hair for my own wedding and commencement ceremony as well as the various shoots (for acting/modelling) that I had to go for.

Denise knows my hair type, preferences, personality like the back of her hands and has always been steadfast in recommending good hair styling options whenever I needed one. She has the knack to make you feel like her single most valued customer; it's no wonder I decided to stick with her salon when I never had with any others before.

Oh and did I mention? She has done the hair of celebrities like Shreya Ghoshal and Neha Kakkar when they came to Singapore! **Me Gasping in Awe**

JR Hair and Beauty Salon has definitely taken on a new look since it was first opened.

Despite the change in location, in no way did I feel the difference. It is still the place of comfort I seek whenever I need to cut my pesky overgrown locks or hide those premature grey hair or simply to get a hair treatment.

So... I feel like I have found the right salon for my hair needs and here are some of my final thoughts of what makes JR Hair and Beauty Salon a great choice for me and possibly for you too!

1. Denise and the staff!

A large part of your salon experience has really got to do with the person taking care of you for the duration of your salon stay and I have always felt right at home with the staff of JR Hair and Beauty Salon. They make me feel comfortable and safe putting my hair in their hands.

2. My 'Indian' hair is in great hands

Denise really understands my Indian hair perfectly! She always makes great suggestions of what will work well with my hair property and texture. I have not let anyone else cut my hair since I had my first taste of her extremely capable hands.

3. Hair care is a priority here for ALL hair types

Not just Indian hair, all hair types are in great hands at JR Hair and Beauty Salon. The staff have vast experience handling all sorts of hair type and that is not surprising considering their decade long experience in this industry

They value your hair as much as you do. If you have any burning questions on hair care, shoot right away. Denise is always down to helping anyone with them.

4. Get your other beauty needs fulfilled here as well

JR Hair and Beauty Salon also provides other beauty services such as eyebrow threading, waxing, facials and even hot oil hair massage.

Get your hair and beauty fix all at one address!

So how to get started at JR Hair and Beauty Salon?

It's really simple!

My 'Indian' hair thanks JR Hair and Beauty Salon for years of nurturing hair care and I hope one day, no matter your hair type, you could say the same thing too!

NUS's IS5008, IS5111 and IS5128 Reviews - Master of Computing (Information Systems) Modules

Having just completed my first year of Master of Computing, specialising in Information Systems, I feel like I badly need this upcoming summer break to 'recuperate' before embarking on my next year of study. It hasn't been completely easy to jump into computing from having hardly any background at all (taking the IS specialisation does make it easier though).  Anyway I am halfway into the journey and damn glad for it! For those who are making the jump like me, have faith that you can make it. And maybe I will see you some time in some module.. Before I immerse completely in my break though, I thought I should do a review of all the three modules that I took within this semester. They have all been IS modules but I do hope I will at least find the courage to do a CS module within the next year. **Fingers Crossed**   UPDATE : I did end up doing one CS module - CS5228 so you could also check out that review, link in next paragraph. In this post, I will cover my  Year 1, Seme...

NUS's IS5005 and IS5009 Reviews - Master of Computing (Information Systems) Modules

With a new academic year fast approaching within the next few months, I thought I better get my Semester 1 modules review out before taking a well-deserved break from modules and study. Afterall, it feels like quite a feat to have completed my first year in Master of Computing, specialising in Information Systems, which hasn't been easy considering my jump into computing from having hardly any background at all. But enough about me and on to the reviews. In this post, I will cover my Year 1, Semester 1 modules - IS5005 and IS5009 whereas other posts will cover my Year 1, Semester 2 modules - IS5008, IS5111 and IS5128  ,   Year 2, Semester 1 modules - CS5228, IS5116 and IS5151  and Year 2, Semester 2 modules - IS5002 and IS5004 . So do check them out too. Alternatively, you could also check out my post on some tips to do well in your part-time Masters ! And now for the Year 1, Semester 1 modules which might be some of your choice picks for the upcoming year.... IS5005 - ...

NUS's CS5228, IS5116 and IS5151 Reviews - Master of Computing Modules

So the first semester of my second year of Master of Computing, specialising in Information Systems, was for lack of a better word, NIGHTMARISH. Somehow I chose modules that were somewhat heavy and on top of that, had to content with a job change right in the middle of the semester! But all things eventually come to an end, even nightmarish semesters. All is well that ends well as they say. In this post, I will cover my  Year 2, Semester 2 modules  - CS5228, IS5116 and IS5151 in the hopes that it will help all of you with your own planning and scheduling for the semester. This semester also marks me undertaking my first CS module (and probably the last one). There are just too many IS modules I am interested in doing and will probably do those. For reviews on the other IS modules I took, do check out those posts here -  Year 1, Semester 1 modules - IS5005 and IS5009  ,  Year 1, Semester 2 modules - IS5008, IS5111 and IS5128  and Year 2, Semester 2 mod...
